technical skills and resources to enhance their efforts to combat identity theft. The
training draws on the practical skills and real life experiences of law enforcement
investigators and special agents, prosecutors, credit bureau representatives and victim
assistance advocates. This training also provides insight on how identity theft is not only
used to commit fraud, but contributes significantly to drug trafficking, alien smuggling,
gun running, various terrorist activities and domestic security issues.
Prosecution Strategies. Further, this training includes insight from prosecutors
and the strategies used by the prosecution to identify the key components they are looking
for to bring successful identity theft actions.
Victim Assistance. For many years, the experiences of fraud and economic crime
victims were not well understood and addressed by criminal justice professionals. The training
also provides consumer educational and informational aspects of ITS's identity theft
assistance program, because many criminal justice agencies encounter various issues in
responding to the needs of victims of this crime.
Resources and Collaboration. In addition, presentations are geared towards
familiarizing law enforcement agencies with the many different resources available to them
from the federal, state and local government, and also from private industry, for investigating
identity theft. Overall, our training methods incorporate the latest techniques and provide
the recipient with practical methods and hands-on tools to help improve investigational and
prosecution strategies, collaborating and enhancing an agency's ability to appropriately respond
to victims of this devastating crime.
